There is a hadith that is commonly used amongst the ummah:
" إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ.." .
Only the Imam (Khalif) is a shield, behind whom you fight and you protect yourself with.

Although this Hadith seems quite straight forward in its message, we should never take for granted the lessons our beloved Messenger (saw) was trying to put across to us.
You see the first meem (م) joined to inna (ان) in arabic grammar thats called meem alhasr ( ميم الحصر) it means meem of restriction...meaning ONLY the imam (khaleefa) can protect the ummah.
So when people say anyone can protect the ummah, like the UN or charity etc ...they are incorrect... if that was the case then Muhammad (saw) would have just said ان الامام!!!!!!!! but he said
انما الامام
SubhanAllah may we take heed of such advice from our Rasool (saw) , especially at a time when the ummah has never been in greater need of such a saviour and the those claiming to assume his place are many.
